NFU national water resources specialist Paul Hammett led the virtual discussion and showed members how to look up the new charging schedules.
Abstraction charges currently raise £162 million and the EA proposal would increase revenues by £22 million as they move towards full cost recovery.
Members heard the consultation had an increased emphasis on ensuring the licence holder only pays for the service they receive however charges for some services increase sharply and some farming businesses hold multiple licences.
The implications of the new charging structure vary between business so members are advised to check the implications for their own situation as some will benefit and others will see charging rates rise substantially.
