Agri Leadership Week – find out about training opportunities

We're supporting Agri Leadership Week, 15-21 May 2023, which sets out to showcase the benefits of leadership development and is aimed at current and aspiring leaders in farming.

By following the campaign you’ll find a range of development opportunities run by different organisations. We want to hear your story and experiences of leadership training and how this has helped both your business and personal development.

The Institute for Agriculture and Horticulture's labour market report recommends employers seek opportunities to develop personal leadership and communication skills in order to attract and retain staff.

The report found that nearly 75% of employers have not carried out any formal management or leadership training themselves in the last three years.

Just under 50% of people surveyed felt that all employers would benefit from leadership training.

We're supporting the #AgriLeadershipWeek campaign, which is a collaborative effort involving:

  • Institute for Agriculture and Horticulture
  • AHDB
  • The Farmers Club Charitable Trust
  • Institute for Agricultural Management
  • Lantra
  • MDS
  • Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust
  • OFC Inspire Programme
  • Royal Agricultural Societies
  • The Worshipful Company of Farmers

SYFA2020 - Karl Franklin

NFU Student and Young Farmer Ambassador Karl Franklin described the programme as “a fantastic way to help me progress into the farming industry”.

“I’m a first-generation farmer so I really helped to get my name out there and learn about the NFU role within the industry.

“I now do a lot of work on social media to promote the farming industry and to show what really happens.”
