Say hello to the NFU at Notts Show 2022

22 April 2022

NFU stand at the Notts County Show

The new-look Nottinghamshire County Show is back for 2022 - and NFU East Midlands will be manning a stand.

The now one-day show, revamped to return it to its agricultural roots, is on Saturday, 14 May and we'll be in the Countryside area with a stand dedicated to telling the fascinating story of British-grown sugar.

Our Newark Showground pitch will be hard to miss - we'll have a big sugar beet harvester on site and our display will take visitors through the journey of their sugar, from seed to cup of tea, with the help of NFU members, NFU Sugar, British Sugar and its factory nearby.

And the NFU's popular Discovery Barn will be there, featuring free, interactive games and activities for children, helping them understand more about where their food comes from.

NFU Nottinghamshire county adviser Andy Guy said: "I’m very excited to see the return of the Nottinghamshire County Show.

"The show is always one of the earliest in the season and will be a fantastic opportunity for NFU members to meet up but, also, for us to celebrate some of the great food which comes from the farms in Nottinghamshire.

"Engaging with the consumers about British food production has never been more important than it is at the moment."

During the pandemic, organisers Newark & Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society canvassed members on what form the previously two-day event should take, with the feedback pointing to a more focussed, one-day show with farming and the countryside community at its heart.

"This year we are taking the show back to its agricultural roots within the rural community of the Midlands, celebrating everything from livestock, equine, countryside competitions with trade stands, local food producers and craft stalls," NNAS said.

The action-packed day will feature:

  • Countryside area and ring: Entertainment and countryside activities for all to enjoy. A popular and lively area with NFU Discovery Barn, farm animals to see and hear more about, and fur and feather displays
  • Festival of Food: Enjoy carefully selected independent producers of the finest food and drink Nottinghamshire and the Midlands has to offer, all while enjoying live music next to the bandstand
  • Competitions: A chance to see or even compete in one of many competitions, with everything from livestock and equine to farriery and floral arts. Plus, a new competition - the Rural Skills and Home Produce Show – featuring budding growers, gardeners, bakers, preserve makers, woodworkers of all ages, including age specific children’s classes
