LAMMA 2024: What did you miss?

Tractors at LAMMA 2024

From the debut of showstoppers such as Case IH’s monster Quadtrac 715 AFS Connect, to what the future of agricultural innovation holds for young farmers, we’ve rounded up the top events and big kit you won’t want to have missed.

1. Show debut for the Quadtrac 715 AFS Connect

Britain’s biggest agricultural machinery event, the LAMMA Show at the NEC, is delivered again with manufacturers highlighting a dazzling array of new equipment.

Quadtrac 715 AFS Connect, Case IH’s most powerful production tractor is powered by the new FPT Cursor 16L TS, delivering 778 peak horsepower at 1,900rpm and 3,255Nm peak torque at 1,400rpm.

Meanwhile, New Holland showed its new CR11 combine, developed to provide higher productivity, with minimal grain loss, improved residue management, and more automation.

Massey Ferguson will brought the new large frame MF 9S series, which includes six models from 285 to 425hp and new Stage V versions of JCB’s 270 and 270T Teleskid compact telescopic boom loader were also on show.

2. NFU Education and Agriconnect bring the classroom to LAMMA

As part of a commitment to promote diversity and inclusivity in the agricultural industry, thirty students visited the LAMMA show this year alongside NFU Education and the event organisers, Agriconnect.

Thanks to the kind sponsorship of AGCO, Year 9 students from Birmingham and Coventry got to see cutting-edge agricultural machinery and technology from leading companies in the farming sector first-hand.

3. LAMMA Live Zone: Young farmers

Jobs in Agriculture hosted a panel discussion about young farmers and the role they play in inspiring others in agriculture.

Sat on the panel were Bizza Walters, previously an NFU Student and Young Farmer ambassador, and Will Roobottom, a young sheep farmer and previous finalist for the BFA digital innovator of the year.

Bizza reflected on her own experiences entering the industry on her own, despite being from a farming family: “Whether you’re from a farming background or not, you can do it and put your stamp on it.”

Will agreed with this, explaining how he started off with only six sheep, and added that “the hardest thing is starting, just give it a go”.

4. How can farmers and growers maintain confidence to invest?

NFU Student and Young Farmer Ambassador Magnus Brown shared his thoughts on this year’s show and posed the question: ‘How can farmers and growers maintain confidence to invest?’

“If we do not have the long-term confidence to invest and innovate, these companies will not either,” Magnus says.

“We must keep people on the land operating, selling and fixing the machinery present at LAMMA, for the number of livelihoods reliant on the agricultural industry is more than many think.”
