Grand Union Canal Transfer (GUC) – launch of public consultation

The first public consultation for the Grand Union Canal Transfer has started. This is a vital new scheme to move water from the Midlands to the Southeast using the existing canal network. It will use a combination of new pipelines, water treatment plants and other infrastructure, as well as the canals themselves to transfer water from one region to another.

It’s a joint scheme between two water companies, Severn Trent and Affinity Water, and the Canal & River Trust charity who are the owner and navigation authority of the canals in England and Wales.

Consulting with our communities is a central part of the planning process and we encourage people to share their thoughts and opinions on this ambitious and transformative project. These comments will help us understand the local area, and any potential impacts our proposals may have on the community and the environment.Ìý

More information about the scheme, and how to take part in the consultation can be found on our website:

Ragwort – control & disposal

»Ê¼Ò»ªÈËisÌýreminding livestock farmers to remain vigilant to the risk of ragwort poisoning. Here's some advice on control and disposal.

Ragwort poses a real risk to animal health, with potentially fatal consequences if it is ingested by horses or livestock, either in its green or dried state. Left unchecked, a ragwort problem is likely to become worse, as the species is highly vigorous. A single specimen can produce up to 150,000 seeds with a germination rate of up to 70%.
