Asda has committed to sourcing聽100% British beef, as well as increasing聽the proportion of UK-based suppliers and UK food products each year.
The move came from new owners the Issa brothers who, together with聽TDR Capital, acquired a majority stake in the supermarket chain from US owners Walmart.
NFU Deputy President Stuart Roberts said: "It鈥檚 fantastic to see Asda鈥檚 new owners already making such strong commitments when it comes to championing British produce.聽
鈥淭he commitment to 100% British beef and increasing its proportion of UK suppliers across a range of products demonstrates recognition of the values at the heart of British food production 鈥� quality, traceability and sustainability.
