Paul Bradley

Chief Campaigns Manager

“As a dad of two children, the NFU has helped me make the most of shared parental leave which allowed me to spend time at home when my children were first born, beyond the usual two weeks.”

I lead the campaigns team on our flagship Back British Farming campaign, with a focus on digital campaigning. The role involves trying to get as many members of the public to get behind British farming.

My role is a leadership role and I’ve benefitted from training through the NFU’s Leadership Programme to equip me with the skills I need. Of course, I have in mind all the goals we’re trying to achieve as an organisation but there is freedom to try new things and take managed risks to get results for the NFU.

One of the best things about the NFU is that if you’re good at your role and you do well in helping the NFU’s members, there are opportunities to progress. I started off as Senior Social Media Manager then covered several secondments leading the web and press teams before moving up the ladder to Chief Editorial Manager and now, Chief Campaigns Manager. Working in all those different roles over the last seven years means I’ve experienced almost every part of communications!

As a dad of two children, the NFU has helped me make the most of shared parental leave which allowed me to spend time at home when my children were first born, beyond the usual two weeks. I have a good working relationship with my line manager and if I need flexibility with my hours or to work from home because one of the kids is poorly for example, then I can do that, but I work hard to meet my employer half way. As they’re willing to give a little bit to help me with my situation, I’m willing to give a little bit more, if I’m needed outside the normal working hours too.

A highlight for me this year was being able to capitalise on Jamie Oliver supporting our food standards petition and ensure the support he gave us transferred through to our channels – eventually leading to 1 million people signing our petition! It gave me a massive lift as a campaigner and team leader to see my colleagues on such a high after a huge success.
