Agricultural Policy Graduate Scheme

“The knowledge and experiences I gained and contacts I made throughout the graduate scheme were invaluable…”

The 18 months I spent on the NFU’s agricultural policy graduate scheme were a real eye-opener to the agricultural industry. I’ve come to understand the NFU’s role in representing British farming and the importance and weight the organisation carries within the industry.

Having spent a year in the NFU headquarters I was fortunate to get involved in a number of different projects with colleagues across the commodity, environmental and land management teams. I then spent eight months at the office in Brussels, where I led on engagement with the European Parliament, helped with sector support at a European level and carried out the comms for the office.

The knowledge and experiences I gained and contacts I made throughout the graduate scheme were invaluable and I was actually quite sad when my time on the graduate scheme came to an end! However, I am now fortunate to be one of the NFU’s food chain advisers and have been for just over eighteen months. Every day is a school day and I’m loving the challenges this role brings, as well as the opportunities to get involved with a number of different work areas and meet industry leaders. I also have a knowledgeable and supportive team of colleagues around me.

I would highly recommend the NFU’s graduate scheme to anyone starting out in their career!
